There will be a couple hundred friendly people, from many different states.  We have over 130 photo displays of Brocks Gap scenes & people.  Other researchers will be there to gather and share information.  Researching your family? Use our personal reference books which we lug to the school just for you.
 This year's special programs:
v 11:30   Preserving Your Heirlooms:  How to take care of your family treasures like the museums do.  By Fran E. Ritchie, Smithsonian Museum.  Fran attended her first Heritage Day when she was 6 years old.  She is now an objects conservator for the Smithsonian, which means she knows how to take care of old photos, documents, and other family treasures.
v 12:45   Local men who were Killed in Action during World War II.
By Joe T. May.  Entrepreneur, inventor, and Cousin, Joe has been a member of the Virginia General Assembly for 18+ years.  In recent years he's been researching the stories of several local men who were killed in action during World War II.  He'll share details behind the sacrifice that these men made for their country.
v 2:00       Bear hunting stories.
By Tony Hinkle, Gerald Crider, & others.  The only thing that could make this program better is if we could sit around a pot-bellied stove while they tell of their exploits in the mountains in search of bear.  They also may share some stories from champion bear hunter, Adam M. Turner, who was reputed to hold the record in the number of bears he bagged.
Local family history books to use and for sale.
Heritage Day covers the areas of Runions Creek, Genoa, Fulks Run, Bergton, Criders, Dry River, Yankeetown, Palos, and Hoover.
